Sacramento's Social Media Day at News10

In just a few years I went from having a Facebook account to actually using it (now with more than 700 friends), signing up for Twitter (my first tweet was on October 16, 2008, since then I have "tweeted" nearly 1600 times and nearly 450 people seem to care) and now I attend "TweetUps" throughout Sacramento and Placer County, have joined a Meetup group or two, have been featured in several news stories just because I use social media, perhaps most importantly I have been fortunate enough to meet hundreds of great people from throughout the Sacramento region.

Mashable.com declared today, June 30th "Social Media Day," so like any good member of the Social Media universe I attended the official Sacramento party at News10 (KXTV).  The event, which included lunch, was sold out within hours (tickets were free, but limited to the first 75 to sign up) and it was a great opportunity to meet the people I follow on Twitter, talk to friends I have met via Twitter and learn more about how News10 is using social media to better connect with the community and in essence "give the station back to the community." Not only did we interact with people in the room, we also used Skype to talk to some friends across the pond at Manchester, England's Studio Skylab. To top of a great afternoon, we were granted a full studio tour, which included heading into the studio where they film every newscast, learning about the control room (most of the studio cameras are now automated so they can focus on having more crews and reporters in the field covering the news) and taking a peek at the newsroom (aka the room where all my phone calls go when I pitch a story).

2010 Lamborghini Supercar Cnossus Concept - Lamborghini Sports Car

This here is the Lamborghini Cnossus. The Lamborghini Cnossus Concept was designed by Russian student Victor Filipchenko with the help of his Portuguese colleague Nelson Simoes as part of their final thesis project at Italy’s Scuola Politecnica di Design.

Every Lambo needs a bull theme, and this supercar design study for a supercar concept named after the ancient Greek city of Cnossus (Knossus) on the island of Crete. The designers claim to have been inspired by the Lamborghini Countach, though it is evident that the edgy styling of the limited production Reventon special also played a role in the design of the Cnossus Concept.

 

Presenting a bold vision of what the firm’s future flagship could look like, the concept takes inspiration from Lamborghini models past and present, including the Countach and Reventón.

 

It boasts many classic cues such as telephone-dial wheels lifted from the Countach, scissor doors and gaping air intakes in front of the rear wheelarch. At the rear, the thin strip of LED lights with inverted arrows at the end is a clear nod towards the Reventón’s jet-fighter theme, while the diffuser looks more like something you’d find on a Le Mans prototype racer than a road car.

Building.

They put up a new crane over the buliding site next to the church yesterday. Work has been going on for a few weeks and so far it looks like it will be a little strip mall with different kind of shops for selling things. The little square foundations are not that big so I don't see any large store maybe being built here. Hopefully they will just be one floor high and so it won't take away the view of the church from us. I'll take pictures once a week and eventually you can see the whole site once it is built from start to finish.

3 days left to the Presidential election and it looks like Komorowski is in the lead by about 10 points, depending on which poll you look at, and the last polls were all wrong so you really can't believe them anyway.

Praca trwa już od kilku tygodni i jak na razie wygląda na to, że będzie to centrum trochę taśmy z różnego rodzaju sklepów sprzedaży rzeczy. Na placu fundacji nie są tak duże, że nie widzę żadnych dużych sklepu może buduje tutaj. Mam nadzieję, że po prostu jednym piętrze wysokiego i tak nie niszczy widok na kościół od nas. Będę robić zdjęcia raz w tygodniu, aw końcu można zobaczyć całą stronę raz, że jest zbudowany od początku do końca.

Pozostało 3 dni do wyborów prezydenckich i wygląda na to Komorowski jest w czołówce o około 10 punktów, w zależności od ankiety patrzysz, a ostatnie sondaże były błędne, więc naprawdę nie mogę uwierzyć, że im tak.

New lease!

Laundry Day!

Last night we had the pleasure of a meeting with our landlord, her husband and their new baby boy in our flat. The little boy is so cute and looks just like his father. They came to us because it was time to sign a new lease for our flat. We wanted to sign a 5 year lease but instead only signed a two year lease because they are building a new house and if, by chance, it is not completed in two years they would most likely need to live in this flat until it is done. So I have added a new prayer that the builders do their job efficiently and get the house built on time. The good news is that this year they will insulate the outside of this flat and so that should cut down on the gas bill for the winter when the bill gets pretty high. At that time they will also repair the small portion of the balcony wall that is deteriorating.

Today was another good day so we went for a walk in the rynek area after taking bus#64 from our flat to ul. Dąbrowskiego and from there it's only about a 15 block walk to the rynek.

The rynek itself was still somewhat covered in little pieces of grafitti used yesterday in the commemoration service of June 28th. The biggest crowd of people for yesterday were concentrated around the double crosses on the square and most of the speeches were given there also.

August 3rd begins our third year in Poland. When I think back on all the trials and tribulations we have been through it is truly amazing that we are still convinced we made the right decision to move here. Some days, after dealing with the early bureaucracy, we almost felt a mistake was made but we stayed with our plan and now, of course, it is much easier for us. I think a large part of the credit has to go to our friend, Zbyszek, because he has helped in so many ways that if I listed them you would need some time to read them all. So, let the new year begin and we will continue to enjoy our life in Poland.

Ostatniej nocy mieliśmy przyjemność spotkania z naszym gospodarzem, mężem i nowych synka w mieszkaniu. Mały chłopiec jest tak słodkie i wygląda tak jak jego ojciec. Przyszli do nas, bo to był czas do podpisania nowej umowy leasingowej na nasze mieszkanie. Chcieliśmy podpisać 5-roku, ale zamiast najmu podpisane tylko dwie umowy najmu, ponieważ są na budowę domu, a jeśli, przez przypadek, to nie zostanie zakończone w ciągu dwóch lat będzie najprawdopodobniej konieczne, by żyć w tym mieszkaniu aż zrobi to . Więc dodałem nowe modlitwy, budowniczych wykonywać swoją pracę skutecznie i dostać dom na czas. Dobrą wiadomością jest to, że w tym roku będą izolować poza tym i tak płaskie, że należy zmniejszyć rachunek za gaz w zimie, gdy rachunek dostaje bardzo wysokie. W tym czasie będą również naprawy niewielką część ściany balkonu, że pogarsza się.

Dzisiaj był kolejny dobry dzień, więc wybraliśmy się na spacer po Rynku obszar po tym autobusem # 64 z naszego mieszkania na ul. Dąbrowskiego i stamtąd dopiero o 15-blok spacerem od Rynku.

Rynek się jeszcze trochę w małe kawałki pokryte graffiti wczoraj wykorzystywane w służbie upamiętnienia z 28 czerwca. Największy tłum ludzi do wczoraj były skoncentrowane wokół podwójne krzyże na placu, a większość wypowiedzi miały tam również.

03 sierpnia rozpoczyna się trzeci rok w Polska. Kiedy myślę o wszystkich perypetie jesteśmy przez to jest naprawdę niesamowite, że nadal jesteśmy przekonani, podjęliśmy właściwą decyzję, aby przenieść tutaj. Kilka dni, po spełnieniu pierwszych biurokracji, to prawie się błąd powstał, ale byliśmy z naszym planem i teraz, oczywiście, o wiele łatwiej jest się za nami. Myślę, że duża część kredytu musi udawać się do naszego przyjaciela, Zbyszek, bo pomógł w tak wiele sposobów, że jeśli wymienione nich potrzeba trochę czasu, aby przeczytać je wszystkie. Więc nowy rok rozpoczyna się i nadal będziemy korzystać z uroków życia w Polska.

The strike broke out in the morning June 28th, 1956 in the Metal Industry plant and turned into a spontaneous protest by Wielkopolskan's against totalitarian rule. The place where social conflict took the form of strikes and street riots later in the Poznań large industrial center.

The first phase lasted from 6.00 am to 10.30 . At that time, the workers organized the strike in the largest establishments of the city. Then they took to the streets forming the procession , which turned from a working demonstration of about 100 thousand. The workers demanded the authorities to withdraw the imposed labor standards, lower prices and raise the wages . 9 hours later the head of the provincial office for public safety together with the Communist Party first secretary pressed Poznań school tank commander for tanks to move against the demonstrators .
The decision to use troops came later from the Party.

At approximately 10.40 the first shots were heard from the building . One of the groups went to the station to halt train traffic.
In the afternoon, the authorities sent regular army units of 10, 300 soldiers , about 360 tanks and over 30 armored personnel carriers . These forces lead street battles with groups of civilians , mostly young in age, armed with only 188 weapons , including bottles of gas.

In the course of the fighting and the pacification of the city, according to estimates , 70 civilians and eight soldiers died and approximately 600 people (on both sides of the barricade ) were injured.
Arrests of the participants had already begun on June 28 , intensified in the days that followed , but handled very roughly . Overall 250 people were arrested , including 196 workers.

Since regaining full independence in 1989, there have been no obstacles preventing commemoration of all anniversaries of June 1956 in a proper manner. Poznań Crosses, which have settled in the city landscape for good, remind further generations of Poznań residents that freedom is not merely a gift - it is a task...
